Recognizes Mrs. Juanita Jones Abernathy, Iyai+ Board Member
16 Years of Public Service on the MARTA Board of Directors

In November 2018, the MARTA Board of Directors, led by Board Chair Robbie Ashe and MARTA CEO, Jeff Parker, joined by Atlanta regional officials, business and community leaders, current and retired MARTA officials, executives and staff recognized Mrs. Juanita-Jones Abernathy for her 16-plus years of outstanding public service on the MARTA Board of Directors. 

Iyai+ Board member, Juanita Jones Abernathy has been one of the longest-serving Board members at the Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the ninth largest public transportation system in the United States.

Congratulations to Mrs. Abernathy, a national civil rights icon who is a living participant and witness of the major events of the American Civil Rights Movement from the inception of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, widow of the late Rev. Ralph Abernathy who worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King on the frontlines. A graduate of Tennessee State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Education, and a former high school teacher, she brings unparalleled human rights leadership and public service, insight, and experience  to the Iyai+ Board.
