Building on its first-time participation in the Chicago Transit Authority’s extensive Summer Youth Program (as a CTA Professional Development Partner), strong selection preference will be given to interested CTA One Summer Chicago interns who participated in the Iyai+ My Beloved Community Cohort. Iyai+’s 2020 partnership and participation in the CTA OSC Program was made possible by the support and active participation of its national Partner – APTAU (business members), and strong local Partner, Genfare, whose main office is located in metro Chicago. Their Partner support made it possible for Iyai+ to gift its CTA Program cohort of 25 student interns (predominately 11thand 12th graders enrolled in the Chicago Public Schools) with the computer tablets, specialized software, and other tech-related hardware that made it possible for the students to participate in a 100% remote (home-based), on line learning environment which provided a CTA-paid internship. And, a very special acknowledgment to the Transportation Learning Center for its tremendous “hands-on” support in assisting Iyai+ to quickly and successfully convert its highly experiential program to an interesting remote, online environment – including both video conferencing capability and introduction of a Learning Management System (LMS).
For this first-time internship opportunity, Iyai+ is also excited to work with the nationally-recognized Cardozo TrasnSTEM Academy (District of Columbia Public Schools), the site of its highly successful infrastructure careers pilot program. Cardozo and Iyai+ will select a student “alum” from its Summer 2019 Pilot program. These “Community Builder” Interns will work with the Iyai+ CEO and Board of Directors, with input from other Program participants, partners and supporters to help build upon and strengthen the overall Iyai+ experience – including networking, active community participation; and, self-directed learning opportunities.
At Iyai+, we tremendously respect and value the knowledge, learned experience, and voices of our youth. With that guiding principle – their active participation in all aspects of “what we do”; and “how we do it” – is an important ingredient of our work. Many thanks to our Partners, Sponsors – awesome Participants – and, many Contributors. Your active participation at all levels is what makes it all come together.
